Dec 11 ML Jamboree Herald Article
Moses Lake and Othello were able to gauge the development of its wrestler's
Thursday at the Moses Lake jamboree with Ellensburg.
Othello topped the board with a record of 16-10-2 in 28 possible matches, Ellensburg finished 13-13-2
and Moses Lake went 11-17.
Moses Lake has a long season ahead before the postseason. Seibel knows it and he
knows he has plenty of time to prepare for it. In his last year as the head coach of the
Moses Lake wrestling team, Seibel saw what he needs to get the Chiefs ready for the Big Nine Conference. The main factor was
what he has been preaching all along - mat awareness and technique. Seibel said his wrestler's
were flat-footed in the jamboree and both Othello and Ellensburg took advantage of the situation. But, he said with experience,
that should change. "Those are things we can correct," Seibel said. "We have a lot of work
to do and the main thing is just staying in position." Moses Lake was strongest with Anthony
Vela, Kyle Hoiness, Jason DeBeaumont and Mitch Reffett. Seibel said those weights need to
be consistent for the Chiefs to win duals while the other weight divisions gain some experience. Ty
Payne, captain of the wrestling team, said hard work will be the key for the Chiefs to win league and districts this year.
But added that hard work is only one part of building a successful program. "I feel like
we need more and everybody needs to be more like a team and show more support," Payne said.
